A native of Belgium, Steven Vanhauwaert studied piano in Brussels at the Royal Conservatory with Boyan Vodenitcharov. In 2004 he moved to Los Angeles to continue his studies with Kevin Fitz-Gerald, James Bonn and John Perry at the Thornton School of Music. Apart from classical piano, he also studied jazz and improvisation with Dennis Thurmond.

Important landmarks of his artistic development were the nurturing interaction with Hilda Dombrecht, Alexei Lubimov, Malcolm Bilson, Helmut Deutsch and Kum Sing Lee, Daniel Pollack and Mark Robson.

In October 2004 he won the Grand Prize at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, which enabled him to tour through the US and Hungary. Steven performs frequently throughout Europe and the US, both solo as in chamber music groups. His performances have been heard on K-MZT, K-USC, WHKB and KLARA.

He has appeared in major venues with orchestras such as the Pacific Symphony, the Flemish Symphony, the USC Symphony, Collegium Instrumentale, Prima la Musica, etc.
